Really? No way this could work for me. I am not a morning person.
Neither was I. And it wasn’t just because I liked sleeping. It was because the day ahead was a daunting and unpleasant prospect and I wanted to procrastinate as long as I could. Sleeping in was the best way to do this. And then once I rose, with the sun already up and most of the world already in third gear, I felt hurried, unfocused and stressed out.
But here’s what I learned after years of research on self-motivation and trying countless methods and courses to improve my own life:

It seems so obvious, doesn’t it? But there’s a huge divide between understanding something intellectually, and understanding it intrinsically. And if you can achieve the latter, you can apply that understanding to your life.
And here’s the icing on the cake:

Really? Sounds like a scam to me.
Sure. I’d be sceptical too. In fact, for the first decade of my adult life I struggled working jobs that I hated but was completely at a loss as to what to do about it. Life just seemed like an endless dread-fest: one laborious chore after another, and the only good moments were when I was getting drunk or jerking off to porn. Then something fantastic happened, though it didn’t seem fantastic at the time:
I LOST MY JOB.
This wasn’t too big a deal, as I’d lost or quit plenty of jobs in the past. But this time was different: I couldn’t even motivate myself to find the courage to go job hunting again. I found myself living on unemployment benefits: the ultimate humiliation in a society where welfare recipients are considered no better than bludgers and criminals.
But here’s what I did get out of the ensuing two years of poverty and constant struggle:
I read every book I could find on self improvement.
I completed countless online fitness courses guaranteed to improve your strength and endurance.
I started running every day, even completing my first marathon in November, 2012.
I went from being a skinny, shy and unsociable dweeb with bad posture to being a reasonably built, confident and creative man.
BUT THIS WAS JUST THE BEGINNING
I made a decision: I would be off welfare within three months. But here’s the clincher:
I WOULD NOT RELY ON A SHITTY JOB TO PAY THE RENT
I didn’t have any decent business ideas and not only that, I was dirt broke. I also hadn’t yet developed the willpower or tenacity required to put in the hard yards necessary.
So I compiled all the positive thinking exercises, lifestyle advice and physical workouts that I found the most valuable. Then I wrote up a boot camp for myself.
BUT THIS WASN’T JUST ANY BOOTCAMP!
I would combine psychological, physical and emotional components, to create a unique and previously unheard of motivational course. And it would be EXTREMELY difficult to complete.
SIX WEEKS TO DEVELOP IRON WILLPOWER
Why six weeks?
For drug addicts or alcoholics, it takes roughly six weeks to rewire your brain so that the cravings become manageable.
To build a new habit, thirty days is the recommended amount of time.
So…
I set myself six weeks: enough time to both build new habits and rewire my brain from the negative effects of a life where the only joy I got was from drinking and looking at porn.
I called it:

Why’d I call it that?
Well, obviously because it would take six weeks, and because it was an endeavour I considered almost impossible, and I thought I’d have to be super human to achieve it.
But achieve it I did. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
And here’s what happened:
Through staying the course, I successfully created a formidable divide between my old self and my new self.
While the research I’d done in the preceding years had meant I intellectually understood the steps I needed to take to better myself, I lacked the willpower to undertake them. The Six Week Super Challenge gave me the strength of character to implement those changes.
I went from being somebody who just paid lip service to ideas of self improvement, motivation and self-determination, to being somebody who INNATELY UNDERSTOOD THEM.
AND THEY BECAME AN INGRAINED PART OF MY CHARACTER.
But how will a course you wrote for yourself work for me?
I can answer this by stating the following: once friends and family saw the drastic, positive changes in both my appearance and attitude (not to mention the ensuing improvement to my financial situation) they began to ask what had happened. So I told them. And a few of them tried out the course for themselves… And what do you know?

I do have to warn you though, not everybody stayed the course. To some, it was just too hard. Others skimped on some requirements so that their experience was not as beneficial.

If you can make it though, you will have achieved something monumental. What separates great people from average people is that the former are willing to face discomfort in order to achieve greater ends.
